What is EU-SAGE?

EU-SAGE is a network representing plants scientists at 134 European plant science institutes and societies that
have joined forces to provide information about genome editing and promote the
development of European and EU member state policies that enable the use of genome
editing for sustainable agriculture and food production.

Position Paper

Regulating genome edited organisms as GMOs has negative consequences for agriculture, society and economy.

Open Statement July 2019

European scientists urgently reach out to the newly elected European Parliament and European Commission to enable the potential of genome editing for sustainable agriculture and food production.

Letter to the European Commission 2020

On behalf of the European Sustainable Agriculture through Genome Editing network (EU-SAGE), we call upon the European Commission to safeguard genome editing for sustainable agriculture and food production.

Open Statement July 2020

Genome editing offers an increasing range of solutions for a more efficient selection of crops that are climate resilient, less dependent from fertilizers and pesticides, and help preserve natural resources. European scientists recommend that the European Commission endorses this message for the benefit and welfare of all EU citizens.

Letter to the European Commission 2021

On behalf of the European Sustainable Agriculture through Genome Editing network (EU-SAGE) we call upon the European Commission to promote a proportionate, non-discriminatory approach to innovative plant breeding in the EC study on novel genomic techniques.

Publication: Genome Editing for Crop Improvement

In a relatively short period of time, genome editing techniques have become an essential tool for our understanding of the genetic basis of biological processes and for biotechnological applications in many different fields. This is the case for crop breeding...

Publication: The role of scientists in policy making for more sustainable agriculture

Feeding the growing world population under changing climate conditions, environmental degradation and the recent COVID-19 pandemic poses globally unprecedented challenges on crop production systems that comprise many aspects, such as inputs, management practices, plant protection, soil management and crop varieties.

Proposal for a proportionate regulatory framework for plants resulting from targeted mutagenesis and cisgenesis

Main principles of the EU-SAGE regulatory proposal for plants resulting from targeted mutagenesis and cisgenesis

Open letter

New genomic techniques (NGTs) are key to achieving greater sustainability of agriculture and food sovereignty in Europe.
